Population Explosion': The Biggest Challenge to the Nation's Development

These days, whenever you open a newspaper or listen to the news, one term that often comes up is 'population explosion.' And rightly so, as we are now citizens of the most populous country in the world. In 2023, we surpassed China, and with a population of around 1.42 billion, the population growth continues unabated.

Back in 1951, India had a population of just 360 million, and today it has surged past 1.42 billion. This increase has put immense pressure on our basic resources like the environment, healthcare, education, and employment. Hospitals lack enough beds, the quality of education is declining, job opportunities are limited, and crime rates are rising—all consequences of uncontrolled population growth.

Relying solely on the government won't solve this problem. Since 1951, governments have been trying to control the population, yet without citizens' active participation, these efforts have not seen sufficient success. Thus, education and awareness are the most critical factors in population control, especially in rural areas, where proper use of family planning methods remains limited. Educating women is also essential, as they play a crucial role in family planning.

Population control should not come from external pressure but from our personal and collective responsibility. We must embrace small families and act as responsible citizens contributing to the country's development. If we want our nation to be prosperous and happy, we must work together in this direction. Now is the time to wake up, understand the issue, and take the right steps to control the population explosion.
