‘Digital-Fast’ Play Highlights Technology Overuse

Udaipur: A poignant short play titled "Dadi Mar Gayi" penned by Jal Mitra Dr. P.C. Jain, showcased the impact of excessive use of digital devices, especially among children, leading to the neglect of family, particularly elders. The play was performed by first-year students of Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences, Umarda.

In the story, grandchildren invite their grandmother home, warmly welcome her, and seat her on the sofa. However, engrossed in their laptop and tablet, they fail to notice her attempts to communicate. Eventually, the grandmother succumbs to chest pain silently. The tragedy unfolds when their mother discovers her, leaving the grandchildren in deep remorse. They pledge to observe a daily "Digital-Fast" for an hour and to abstain from using devices when elders visit.

Dr. P.C. Jain used a PPT presentation to highlight the harmful effects of smoking and alcohol, sharing real-life cases and their consequences. A powerful anti-addiction dance performance, set to the song "Aaja Re Tu Mere Ghar Ko Kha Ja", captivated the audience.

In the second segment, Dr. Jain educated attendees on water conservation, introducing the concept of virtual water—the hidden water used in producing everyday items like wheat, rice, jeans, and T-shirts. He warned that misuse of resources could lead to severe water scarcity, explaining that 2000 liters of water are needed for 1 kg of wheat, 5000 liters for 1 kg of rice, and 7000 liters for a pair of jeans.

Dr. Jain demonstrated how to measure TDS in drinking water, discussed appropriate RO usage, and emphasized rainwater harvesting techniques to recharge groundwater using simple filters. He urged the audience to adopt water-saving habits to ensure sustainable resources for future generations.

The performance featured students Vedika, Harshita, Shreya, Aryan, Japesha, Mohammad, Neha, Jiya, and Nisha. The event was hosted by Dr. Ashish Sharma, and Dr. Suresh Goyal, Principal of Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences, welcomed and praised Dr. Jain’s efforts. Attendees included Dr. Dilip Kumar Parik, Dr. Pranav Kumar, Dr. Varsha, Dr. Ramprakash Saini, faculty, and students.
