100-Year-Old Mataji's Body Donation Completed in Jaipur with the Help of Shine India
Jaipur: Rajendra Jain "Vya," a retired employee of UCO Bank and an active member of Shine India Foundation, has been working for over 13 years in the fields of eye donation, organ donation, and body donation. Recently, his mother, Pani Bai, wife of the late Shri Nanlal Vya, passed away at the age of 100 in Jaipur.
A devout Jain, Pani Bai had always dedicated herself to serving the underprivileged, animals, and trees. She was a follower of Jain spiritual teachings and had always been involved in activities to help the less fortunate. For the past decade, she had been very supportive and proud to see her son, Rajendra Jain, working with Shine India Foundation in promoting eye donation. She felt content knowing that through such work, the human life of children could be made meaningful.
Pani Bai always expressed her wish that after her death, her body should not cause unnecessary harm to the environment—such as the destruction of trees or harming animals. Instead, she believed in donating her body so that no harm would come to nature and living beings after her passing.
Inspired by his mother's selfless service, Rajendra Jain has dedicated himself to several environmental and social causes, including promoting plastic-free living, water conservation, and organ donation. Pani Bai had also been inspired by her brother-in-law, Shobha Chand Vya, who had previously donated his body. This inspired her to complete her own body donation pledge with Shine India Foundation 8 years ago.
After signing the donation pledge, Pani Bai informed her four sons—Dr. Vijay, Advocate Dalpat, Dr. Lalit, Rajendra, and her daughter, Dr. Madhu, as well as her grandchildren, about her decision to donate her body after death.
When Pani Bai passed away early yesterday morning, the family unanimously agreed to honor her wishes. Her body donation was carried out at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College in Jaipur, as per her earlier commitment.
Over the past 10 years, Rajendra Jain has also helped over 1,200 people pledge to donate their eyes and has facilitated 24 body donations through the Shine India Foundation.
