World's First Zinc Park: A Milestone for India's Mining Industry - Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma

Jaipur.During the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024, Vedanta Hindustan Zinc, the world's second-largest integrated zinc producer, made a historic announcement of establishing the world's first industrial zinc park in Rajasthan. The announcement marks a transformative moment in the state’s industrial landscape. Present at the event were India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, and Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal.

A Massive Investment in Rajasthan’s Future

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal highlighted that the zinc park is a key part of Vedanta’s ₹1 lakh crore investment in Rajasthan across zinc, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors. The ambitious non-profit zinc park aims to create a transformative industrial ecosystem, bolstering both upstream and downstream industries in the metals and manufacturing sectors.

Hindustan Zinc Limited Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar and CEO Arun Mishra also emphasized the project’s significance, reinforcing the company’s commitment to driving sustainable growth in the state.

Strategic Location and Advanced Facilities

The proposed zinc park will be situated near Hindustan Zinc’s world-class facilities, including the world’s largest zinc-lead smelter at Chanderiya, Chittorgarh, and state-of-the-art smelters in Dariba and Debari. The park is designed to generate thousands of jobs and offer unparalleled infrastructure, reliable utilities, continuous raw material supply, and competitive operational costs. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the zinc park aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s sustainability commitments.

The park will provide a broad platform for enterprises, ranging from large industries to MSMEs and startups, with an initial investment of less than ₹5 crore. It will cater to sectors reliant on zinc, lead, silver, and associated byproducts, while fostering an efficient ecosystem for suppliers, raw materials, maintenance services, and equipment providers. The park will also host innovation hubs, with access to Hindustan Zinc’s Centers of Excellence and R&D facilities.

Rajasthan’s Vision for Industrial Growth

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma welcomed Vedanta’s initiative, stating, “The establishment of the world’s first zinc park in Rajasthan is a moment of pride. Our new double-engine government is committed to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed India by 2047. With abundant resources and robust investment plans, Rajasthan offers some of the most business-friendly policies and incentives in the country. The state will fully support entrepreneurs at every step to build a prosperous future.”

Strengthening Rajasthan’s Role as an Industrial Leader

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal added, “This non-profit zinc park will enable the establishment of hundreds of MSMEs, creating large-scale employment opportunities. It will further strengthen Rajasthan’s leadership in key minerals and energy sectors, including zinc, lead, silver, copper, and renewable energy. With over ₹2.5 lakh crore cumulative investment in the state, Vedanta is committed to fostering Rajasthan’s industrial growth and creating over two lakh jobs.”

Catalyzing Economic Growth in Rajasthan

Ahead of the summit, Vedanta announced plans for an additional ₹1 lakh crore investment in Rajasthan, which is expected to create over two lakh jobs and support more than 500 downstream industries across various sectors. Hindustan Zinc aims to double its zinc production capacity, expand silver production, and establish India’s first fertilizer plant. Cairn Oil & Gas will scale up oil production, while Serentica Renewables plans to develop 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity in the state.
