Udaipur, December 16, 2024: A delegation of students from MPUT’s constituent Fisheries College and the College of Fisheries Udaipur Alumni Association met with the Chief Minister's office of the Rajasthan government on Monday and submitted a memorandum demanding the filling of vacant academic and non-academic positions at the college.
Despite 15 years since the establishment of the college, there is still a shortage of faculty and staff to meet the minimum standards set by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for running the college. Currently, there are only two full-time professors at the college, as many professors are retiring, and the remaining teaching work is being handled by guest faculty.
The students mentioned that they have previously met with state government officials on this issue, but so far, only assurances have been given, with no concrete steps taken to fill the vacancies. This time, they appealed for the government to take their demands seriously and to begin the process of filling the vacancies as soon as possible.
Due to the faculty shortage, the PG and Ph.D. courses at the college have been suspended, forcing students from the state to seek higher education in other states. This has resulted in a halt in research on climate-based fish seed selection, suitable fish species, their habitats, integrated fish farming, and cost-effective production methods.
The students have given the government and university administration a 15-day ultimatum. They warned that if the recruitment process is not initiated within this period, they will begin a large-scale movement and awareness campaign.
The memorandum was submitted in the presence of Ajay Meena, Mukesh Ghasal from the Alumni Association, and other 4th-year BFSc students.
Sincerely,
