The ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) department successfully removed an iron object that had reached near the brain of 38-year-old Khema Ram, saving his vision and life.
The surgery was led by Dr. Shiv Shankar Kaushik, Associate Professor of the ENT department, with the support of Dr. Ravindra, Dr. Dinesh, and their team from the Anesthesia Department. They skillfully used endoscopic techniques to remove the iron object through the nasal passage, successfully saving both the patient's life and eyesight without the need for an incision.
Accident and Its Severity
Khema Ram, a resident of Nagaur district, was working in a mine in Devgarh when a piece of iron accidentally pierced his eye and entered his body. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital, and given the seriousness of the injury, he was referred to Pacific Medical College and Hospital.
Complex Surgery and Success
Upon examination, Dr. Shiv Shankar Kaushik found that the iron object had pierced the nasal bone and was dangerously close to the brain. This posed a serious risk not only to the patient's vision but also to his life. Without wasting any time, the team prepared for surgery. Using endoscopic techniques, they carefully removed the iron object through the nasal passage, avoiding the need for any incision.
