Udaipur: “Our goal is to promote traditional handicrafts while providing employment to those in need. By using Indigo Dye, we have successfully preserved the 'Dabu' printing technique and marketed the garments designed with it, empowering women economically and making them self-reliant,” shared Mrs. Alka Sharma.
Honorary General Secretary Dr. Pawan Telesara stated that under the “Let’s Visit the Factory” series, members of the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UCCI) visited "Kosvi Aavaran Producer Company" to observe the various processes of textile designing and printing.
Chairperson of UCCI's Membership Engagement Sub-Committee, Mrs. Hasina Chakkiwala, introduced Mrs. Alka Sharma at the start of the industrial visit, highlighting the inspiring journey of a woman from a working-class family who became an entrepreneur. Mrs. Sharma's efforts to train rural women and make them economically self-sufficient earned her the UCCI Excellence Award.
Mrs. Alka Sharma, the director of the company, informed the members that approximately 300 women from the Akola region in Mewar are engaged in the traditional art of cloth dyeing and printing using the ancient Gaboo printing technique, providing them with livelihood opportunities.
Designer Head Ms. Charu explained the company’s various processes in detail through a slideshow presentation.
President Mr. M.L. Lunawat praised Mrs. Alka Sharma and emphasized the importance of promoting this traditional handicraft from Mewar.
The industrial tour was attended by over 40 members, including Treasurer Mr. Prakashchandra Bolia, Mr. Kejar Ali, Dr. Vivek Vashisht, Mr. Somil Maheshwari, Dr. Anshu Kothari, Mr. Omprakash Agarwal, Mr. Tany Kothari, and Mr. Suyash Jain, among others.
