PM Modi Inaugurates 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Thursday, welcoming delegates and members of the Indian diaspora from across the globe. Highlighting the significance of the PBD, he stated that it has become a robust institution strengthening ties between India and its diaspora.

During the event, PM Modi flagged off the "Pravasi Bharatiya Express," a special tourist train aimed at showcasing India's heritage. The train will enable 150 passengers to visit 17 sites of spiritual and historical significance, commencing its journey from Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi. This three-week tour will be conducted under the "Pravasi Tirth Darshan Yojana."

PM Modi acknowledged the vital role of the Indian diaspora, referring to them as "ambassadors of India," and expressed gratitude for their contributions on global platforms. He mentioned how world leaders have commended the Indian diaspora for their societal values and contributions. The Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to assisting its diaspora during crises, no matter where they reside.

Highlighting India’s rapid progress, Modi said that 21st-century India is moving ahead with extraordinary speed and is well-equipped to meet the global demand for skilled talent. He also emphasized India's role as the voice of the Global South and its leadership in the G20.

The event witnessed a remarkable performance of the "Pravasi Geet" by Grammy-winning artist Ricky Kej and his team, celebrating the sentiments and emotions of the diaspora. Modi extended his gratitude to Trinidad and Tobago President Christine Carla Kangaloo for her heartfelt message through a video address.

PM Modi also reminded the audience of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India on this very day in 1915, linking the event to India’s rich legacy. He highlighted that the PBD coincides with the centenary celebrations of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision led to the establishment of this initiative.

India’s Achievements and Vision for the Future
Modi detailed India’s accomplishments, such as the success of Chandrayaan, Digital India initiatives, and advancements in renewable energy, aviation, and electric mobility. He emphasized the nation’s journey to becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy and projected its rise to the third spot soon.

He encouraged the diaspora to actively participate in initiatives such as the "Know India" quiz and the ICCR scholarship program, urging them to connect deeper with their roots. He also appealed to them to promote Indian products and culture abroad while advocating for planting trees in their mothers' names as a tribute to Mother Earth.

Rajasthan’s Representation at PBD
Under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Manisha Arora, a delegation from Rajasthan Foundation participated in the event, interacting with Rajasthanis residing abroad. The delegation emphasized strengthening bonds and inviting investments in Rajasthan’s new business opportunities.

Dr. Arora announced the establishment of 14 new chapters of the Rajasthan Foundation, including five domestic (Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Pune, Ranchi, and Guwahati) and nine international ones in Dubai, Munich, Riyadh, Tokyo, Singapore, Doha, Melbourne, Nairobi, and Kampala.

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, held in collaboration with the Government of Odisha from January 8-10, 2025, focused on the theme "Contribution of the Indian Diaspora in a Developed India." With over 50 countries represented, the event provided a vital platform for fostering connections and enhancing communication among Indian expatriates.

PM Modi concluded his address with wishes for a prosperous 2025, urging everyone to take part in the upcoming Prayagraj Mahakumbh and celebrate India’s heritage with pride.
