Empowering Pharma with Artificial Intelligence: Innovation, Challenges, and Future Directions National Seminar Organized

Udaipur: The B.N. Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bhupal Nobles University, organized a seminar on the theme "Empowering Pharma with Artificial Intelligence: Innovation, Challenges, and Future Directions," sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Rajasthan. Dr. Vipin Mathur, Principal of Rabindranath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur, was the chief guest at the event. In his inaugural address, Dr. Mathur emphasized that global health systems are witnessing innovations based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), and there is a need to integrate AI into the Indian pharmacy sector to enhance its capabilities. He highlighted the vast potential AI holds for the pharmacy sector, which can make significant contributions to healthcare systems worldwide.

The program commenced with a Saraswati Vandana and a welcome speech by Dr. Chetan Singh Chauhan, Principal of BNIIPS. On this occasion, the Executive Chairman of the Institute, Colonel Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot, and Secretary Dr. Mahendra Singh Agarwal shed light on both the bright and dark sides of AI applications. Dr. Meenakshi Bharkatia, the program secretary, presented the seminar's outline. 

In the first lecture, Dr. Ketan Ranch, from L.M. College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad, discussed the integration of AI in drug development, explaining how different tools can be utilized to make drugs more effective in less time and even design medications tailored to individual needs. In the second lecture, Dr. Kashyap Nagaria, Senior Scientist at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Limited, Ahmedabad, explained AI-driven tools like DrugBank.com, PharmE SD, PubChem, and FormulationAI, and their applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

The event was attended by key figures, including Mohabbat Singh Rupa Khedi, Managing Director of Vidya Pracharini Sabha, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh Thana, Registrar Dr. N.N. Singh Rathod, Pharmacy Chairman Mahendra Singh Pakhand, Executive Members Nawal Singh Jood, Hanumant Singh Boheda, Mahendra Singh Patiya, Kamleshwar Singh Kachher, Dean of Pharmacy Dr. Yuvraj Singh Sarangdevot, and many others, who encouraged the participants.

In the third lecture, Dr. Radhika Pandya from Ahmedabad discussed research in the AI ecosystem, explaining how the government and other funding agencies can help combine education and industry to foster AI-based development. The seminar inspired nearly 350 students to engage in AI-based research.

Professor Harcharan Singh from RNT Medical College, Udaipur, expressed hope that the seminar would pave the way for new innovations in pharmacy and healthcare through AI integration. Pharmacy college principals and directors from across Rajasthan, including Dr. Ashok Dashora, Dr. Alka Agarwal, Dr. Rahul Garg, Dr. R.S. Bhadoria, Dr. Jayesh Dwivedi, Dr. Ritu Bhargav, Dr. Priyanka Chauhan, Dr. Udichi Kataria, and Dr. Udaybhan, also participated in the event. 

The seminar featured a poster competition with 85 posters presented by students from across the country. Dr. Garvita Joshi, Dr. Garima Joshi, Dr. Sunita Panchawat, and Dr. Vivek Jain served as judges. In the e-poster competition, Monica Verma, Devanshi Waghela, and Ankita Dubey secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively. In the poster exhibition, the first, second, and third positions were awarded to Kushagra Yadav, Chaitanya Bhatt, and Nancy Badlani, and Umehani, C.P. Joshi, and Ridham Sisodia, respectively.

The event was well-conducted by Dr. Priyadarshini Kamble. The success of the seminar was made possible through the efforts of faculty members Dr. Anju Goyal, Dr. M.S. Ranawat, Dr. Komal Sharma, Dr. R.P.S. Rathod, Alok Bhargav, Dr. Amul Mishra, Dr. H.P. Singh, Dr. Deepak Marothia, Dr. Amit Bhargav, Dr. Rajat Vaishnav, Dr. Gajendra Singh Rathod, Dr. Aniruddh Devda, Sushri Moomal Devda, Dr. Mahendra Singh Solanki, Pradeep Chundawat, Surendra Singh Dalawat, and all other faculty members.

In the end, the program secretary, Dr. Meenakshi Bharkatia, expressed gratitude to the guests and participants.
