The Punjabi Society Committee celebrated the traditional festival of Lohri with great zeal at the committee office outside Sheetla Mata Temple. Committee General Secretary Praveen Gulati shared that the Lohri flame was lit by the committee’s patron, Harish Kalra, marking the beginning of the festivities. This year, Lohri was celebrated in an eco-friendly manner by burning cow dung cakes instead of wood.
After lighting the Lohri fire, men, women, and children danced to the tunes of bhangra and sang songs while circling the fire. Children sang the traditional "Sundari Mundari" song and received blessings from elders. Prasad, including jaggery-coated peanuts, popcorn, and puffed corn, was distributed among the attendees.
Committee President Veer Wadhwa mentioned that special celebrations were held for newlywed couples and families blessed with a child in the past year. Prominent community members, including Ramchandra Malik, Mahendra Nijhawan, Om Malik, Rajendra Bathla, Kamal Adlakha, Pradeep Chhabra, Surendra Nijhawan, Anil Sabharwal, and Sanjay Nakra, were also present on this occasion.
Newlywed couple Vaibhav and Chiransha Gulati, who got married two months ago, celebrated their first Lohri with joy and enthusiasm.
