A sudden and intense storm that hit Udaipur late Friday night caused widespread destruction across the city. With winds reaching speeds of up to 61 km/h, several trees were uprooted, electricity poles toppled, and tin roofs were blown off houses in many areas.
One of the most notable impacts was at Sukhadia Circle, where the metal statue of former Chief Minister Mohanlal Sukhadia, widely regarded as the architect of modern Rajasthan, fell and was damaged. The statue was later shifted to the Municipal Corporation's garage branch for safekeeping. Upon learning about the incident, local MLA Tarachand Jain visited the site and instructed officials to either repair the statue immediately or commission a new one if necessary.
The storm resulted in the collapse of trees at nearly 25 to 30 locations, affecting traffic and damaging several vehicles. Three municipal teams were deployed to clear the roads and remove the debris. In addition, several large hoardings were ripped apart and blown away.
Power supply was severely disrupted in multiple areas, leaving residents without electricity well into Saturday morning. Water supply was also affected, adding to the public inconvenience. In some places, solar panels were damaged and street lights went dark, leaving many neighborhoods in complete darkness.
