Udaipur, 3 April – Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in Delhi and submitted a memorandum urging the declaration of the Banswara via Salumber state highway as a National Highway. He also demanded approval for the Udaipur-Bansi-Dhariyawad-Pratapgarh-Jaora Expressway and completion of stalled work on the Udaipur–Jhadol route, particularly in the Raan Ghati and Paliyakheda sections.
Dr. Rawat informed the Minister that the current Udaipur to Banswara via Salumber State Highway (SH-32) is narrow and frequently congested, leading to regular accidents. Declaring it a National Highway and expanding it to four lanes would resolve traffic issues and enhance connectivity between the divisional headquarters in Udaipur and the Banswara district via Salumber. The proposed 156.50 km route passes through predominantly tribal areas in Mewar and Vagad and would significantly benefit the local population by boosting transportation, employment, and industrial development.
He emphasized that converting the route to a National Highway would improve accessibility to Madhya Pradesh (Ratlam) and Gujarat (Dahod), enable safer and faster public transport, and reduce road accidents in the region.
Dr. Rawat also pressed for approval of an Expressway between Udaipur and Jaora via Bansi, Dhariyawad, and Pratapgarh, which would effectively connect Rajasthan's Udaipur to Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain, reducing the current travel time of 6–8 hours to just 2 hours. He noted that the MP Government is already building an Expressway from Ujjain to Jaora, and further connectivity to Udaipur would support both tourism and economic development in tribal areas.
He pointed out that Udaipur, being a key international tourist destination and home to religious sites like Shrinathji (Nathdwara) and Sanwariya Seth (Mandfiya), would benefit from improved express connectivity. The proposed road would also link tribal-dominated areas like Salumber, Dhariyawad, and Pratapgarh to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, aiding educational and industrial progress.
Minister Gadkari gave positive instructions to officials for reviewing and addressing the proposals.
